Look After Your Frames
Care Guide
Good frames last a long time when you treat them right. Here’s how to keep yours looking like the day you got them.
Two hands, always
Always put your frames on and take them off with both hands. Single-hand removal warps the temples over time — even the well-made ones.
Rinse before you wipe
Dust acts like sandpaper on lenses. Rinse with cool water first, then dry gently with the microfibre cloth that came with your frames. Skip the t-shirt, tissue, or sleeve.
Mild soap if needed
For fingerprints, a drop of unscented dish soap and lukewarm water works. Avoid alcohol-based cleaners, glass cleaners, and anything with citrus — they break down lens coatings.
Store them properly
Use the case. Frames lying lens-down on a table will scratch. Frames in a bag without a case will scratch faster. The case is not optional.
Heat is the enemy
Don’t leave acetate frames on a hot dashboard, near a stovetop, or in a steamy bathroom. Heat warps acetate and loosens metal joints over time.
Get them adjusted
If your frames feel loose or crooked, pop into any optical shop for a free adjustment. Don’t bend them back yourself — that’s how hinges break.
